Where to Eat in Courchevel

One can call Courchevel the gastronomic capital of ski resorts. Use our guide to find the best restaurants in Courchevel! We will help you to navigate through the diversity of tastes!

Fine Dining

You can find anything on the slopes of Courchevel: atmospheric cafes where they serve traditional Savoyard cuisine as well as restaurants with splendid views, which offer exquisite dishes and on sunny terraces of which skiers and snowboarders get together. One of them is La Soucoupe, where snow and speed lovers have been meeting for a over 50 years. We do not know what they served there half a century ago, but studied the modern thoroughly. Hope you will like their cuisine: finest steaks, beef ribs cooked on an open grill, caramelized bread with pain perdu butter and wine-simmered diots (homemade sausages). There is a large balcony to enjoy on sunny days and they also have a large fireplace, ideal on cold days. How to find La Soucoupe? It is at the top of the Plantrey chairlift.

If you are looking for something more authentic and special, then head up to La Cave des Creux, which is located at an altitude of 2,112m next to Courchevel Altiport. (переклад вище) Sit back on the terrace near the outdoor fire and enjoy your meal. According to restaurant critics, the main selling points are their homemade desserts, panoramic views of both the 3 Valleys, and a very good selection of vegetarian dishes. If you prefer meat, we recommend ordering a lamb baked on an open fire accompanying it with Génépi, Alpine herbal liqueur.
Include the Bellecоte piste and the Courcheneige hotel in your skating itinerary. Your goal is De Laroche brasserie. Once this place was the cheapest at the resort, but two years ago it was altered beyond recognition including the kitchen upgrade. At the same time, prices are still rather affordable. Come here for lunch in the fresh air on the Le Rendez Vous terrace. To warm up, order pizza from the oven and something from the grill menu.

What if you are not fond of skiing? Almost in every group of ski lovers there are non-skiers who prefer shopping or spa but still like to meet friends and family for lunch in the mountains. We chose some options for you with pedestrian access. If a mountain view is what you are looking for, then choose Le Panoramic. It is located at the top of the Saulire lift so you can get there both on skis and on foot. They offer both a great view over Courchevel looking towards Mont Blanc as well as excellent traditional Alpine cuisine.

At the bottom of the Saulire lift there is Les Verdons, not less popular place. You can get there by Verdons gondola right from Courchevel’s central station. In fact, it’s a pub with the expected menu options plus burgers, paninis, and hot dogs.

Le Bel Air’ at the top of Ariondaz gondola lift above Courchevel Moriond offers all traditional Savoy hits including raclette. If you want meat or fish grilled in th open fire, go to L’Oeil de Boeuf located at the bottom of Tovets ski run. Drop in the Bouc Blanc restaurant if you are fond of hearty lunches, omelettes, and burgers and prefer enjoying meals looking at the mountains. It is not difficult to get here: it’s perfectly located right at the bottom of the Bouc Blanc piste.

Our choice. La Saulire. Not only is the wine list here impressive, but the waiters can advise on special wine for each dish. The food is not worth than the wine, but the king of the menu is certainly precious black truffle. Their fondue with fresh truffles is a must-try! You can get to the restaurant by Verdons gondola changing to the Saulire lift.

Taste National

Staying in Courchevel, you have a chance to make a gastronomic journey around three countries: France, Italy, and Japan. Here you can try both Savoy specialties and hearty Alpine cheese based dishes and grilled meats. For example, go to La Fromagerie for their famous fondue, raclette, and tartiflette. (переклад вище) Don’t miss a chance to try their culinary wonders like matouille, camembert, and tartichèvre. What is matouille? Baked cheese without the upper crust, stuffed with white wine, garlic, and nutmeg. It will be exciting to explore the secrets of other dishes on your own!

Also providing authentic Savoyard cuisine but in a modern way is Le Saint Nicolas in the 5 star Hotel Le Lana. Experienced gourmets recommend trying the specialty of a truffle fondue. Another nice restaurant is La Casserole located in Courchevel Moriond. Visitors like it not only for their delicate pâté, snails in garlic sauce, and fish in white wine, but also because you can ski right to the restaurant doors.

Choosing among Courchevel’s Italian restaurants, the first one worth visiting is Ristorante Mamma Mia. It’s as Italian as it sounds with its typical Italian menu including antipasti, pasta, pizza and just best coffee. We recommend trying their spaghetti with lobster and ravioli with porcini mushrooms and truffles. To find a restaurant, keep heading for the Hotel de la Croisette.

Cucina Angelina is also worth attention. Its celebrity chef Angela Hartnett created the menu typical to one that you would have in Italy. La Casa Italia specialise in more of a tapas and antipasti menu which you can enjoy on their sunny terrace.

A fashionable resort cannot but have trendy Asian restaurants. The Koori restaurant located in the 5 star L’Apogee Hotel offers Japanese cuisine which intricately intertwined with Savoyard one. Regular visitors like to shout about their unique Koori carpaccio, black cod in miso sauce, and the extensive selection of sakes.

The fancy Le Tigrr in Courchevel specialises in the best Asian cuisine: sushi, sashimi, dim sum, curries and many more. If you are looking for creative sushi then go to Le Tremplin gastronomic restaurant. What is so special about them? You will understand after trying their blue lobster and caviar sushi.

Another atmospheric Asian restaurant is Le Grand Café with its traditional luxury Asian decor of 1930s. We recommend their pork with caramel and coconut, and Peking duck.
Our choice. Le Petit Savoyard is recommended in the French ‘Guide du Routard’ for their Savoyard specialties. Do not order fondue, raclette or pizza: you can try all this at other restaurants. Better ask for something local … for example, homemade foie gras or gourmet coffee. Yes, say just like this: “gourmet coffee”, and you will get a cup of steaming drink with four small desserts.

Michelin-Starred Restaurants

If fine dining is the plan for your ski holiday, you will have plenty of options. (переклад вище) Restaurants in Courchevel are not worth than those in Paris. The only 3* Michelin restaurant in Courchevel is Le 1947 is the most well-know and refined one with its white colours decor, a small 5-tables parlour, and a sound-reflecting ceiling. To appreciate the menu, take a 6-course tasting set from the famous Yannick Alleno. You are very lucky if you are a vegetarian: the vegetarian menu here is beyond all praise.

Pierre Gagnaire Pour Les Airelles is a 2* Michelin restaurant. But the fact that it has one star less does not make the quality of its dishes worse than those of Le 1947. They have the most luxurious buffet is served, if not all over the world, then in Courchevel for sure. Gourmets may try all kinds of seafood from oysters to caviar, as well as meats, sausages, cheeses and impressive desserts.

Two more restaurants awarded two cherished stars are the luxury Le Montgomerie and the little Le Kintessence with its Italian truffles and selected lobsters.

The Baumaniere restaurant has 1* but is as wonderful as 2-starred ones. Its chef, Jean-Andre Charial, proves it by his exclusive roasted Alpine lamb, confit foie gras, Breton lobster or frog legs. There is also a small 1* Michelin restaurant called Azimut. Visitors praise the menu, wine list and desserts, recommending honey ice cream and rice pudding. The chef of Le Farçon, Julien Marchet, is known throughout France as he has appeared as a TV judge on the French Master Chef. To understand what he won his award for, it’s enough to try lobster with smoked white chocolate sauce and something from the children’s menu. Yes, Monsieur Marchet believes that his specialties are not only for adults but also for children and specially adapts the menu for the little ones’ tastes.
Our choice. Le Chabichou, a 2* Michelin restaurant. The regulars are sure that he deserved the third long ago and it remains only to wait a bit. But don’t wait, better drop in here for dinner and enjoy the signature dishes of the chefs, Michel and Stéphane. There is also the option to reserve a table near the kitchen so that you can see where the magic takes place.

For Early Birds

Before going on a mountain adventure, it would be nice to recharge yourself with a hearty breakfast. There are many places serving food for early birds but we selected the best ones. A great stop for breakfast is La Boulotte, where they serve delicious breakfasts with special cheeseburgers as well as tasty brunches. The owner, Katie, offers all-day snacks. Try her onion soup, even if it was previously considered an outsider of French cuisine. Pub Le Ski Lodge offers a full English breakfast on Saturdays between 10am-12 pm. On weekdays, you can have a snack at L’Arbе from 8.30am. Although we believe that it is better to drop in here for a brunch. This is one of the few places with the wonderful selection of soups and such delicacies of French cuisine as snails baked in puff pastry, foie gras, chicken with mushrooms, and blueberry pie. If you don’t want to waste time for breakfast, La Saucisse Savoyarde is just the right place to go for hot sandwiches, fresh bread, local cheese and wines, pizza, and great coffee to take away. It may be fun to have a simple, hearty breakfast right then and there.
Our choice. Check out La Normandise located near the Grangettes gondola lift. They have a fantastic pancake menu and if you are feeling chilly try their vin chaud (or simply “hot wine”), which is always in high demand at ski resorts.

Time to Go to the Pub

Gastropubs in Courchevel offer as tasty menu as that of the famous restaurants but the atmosphere here is more democratic and relaxed. So it is worth try something here. Start with La Taiga in La Tania, the most popular gastropub. The cocktail bar is downstairs and is ideal for pre-dinner drinks before heading upstairs to enjoy the food. They serve traditional Savoyard dishes and French classics, including fois gras. The also offer all kinds of seafood, scallop salad, and savoyard fondue. In the same village of La Tania, you will find Pub le Ski Lodge with signature hamburgers, ribs, pasta, salads, and a daily special that changes every day. With its large serving size, outside terrace, and live music, La Taiga is one of the best stops for a night out.
Our choice. L’Escourchevel is one of the hot spots in Courchevel. It offers typical food alongside sports TV and live music in the evenings. If you get hot from dancing, order their famous Vodka Freeze.

Vegetarian Joys

The restaurants around Courchevel are finally catching up with vegetarianism and most will include at least one meat-free option on the menu. (переклад вище) To make an order, just remember to ask for “sans viandes” (without meat)! And, as they say, s’il vous plaît! For example, La Taiga we have already mentioned offers a few vegetarian options of fondue and raclette. Raclette is usually served with cured meats. However La Taiga offers roast veggies for vegetarians. We also recommend a baked aubergine and feta dish. They have a vegan burger and a goats cheese burger on the menu at Pub Le Ski Lodge. La Boulotte gets our thumbs-up for their falafel wraps, casual atmosphere and live music. Le Bubble Bar (just near La Boulotte) is recommended for its vegetarian panini and nachos.
Our choice. Real lovers of vegetarian food will relieve their feelings at Le Grand Café. They will be pleasantly surprised by the fine selection of Asian dishes. We recommend the papaya salad and vegetable tempura.

Child-Friendly Restaurants

How to avoid food misunderstandings with a child? Go together to the place where they offer not only delicious and various food for children but also entertainments. We give 10 out of 10 to Le 3000 located on the ground floor of Le Forum mall. They have children’s menu and, what is even more important, the Game Center amusement area just near where children can have fun while you are enjoying your time at lunch.

The children’s menu of the Pub Le Ski Lodge is even better that of Le 3000 and excellently understands the needs of small gourmets offering such options as chicken nuggets and bolognaise with ham or chips. (переклад вище) There is a playground next to the pub, which automatically adds another point to Le Ski Lodge. Le 9.9 at the Tournier Hotel with its refined “mini-menu” is the best place for dinner.
Our choice. These are three places that you should definitely visit if you want to pamper your kids: La Table de Mon Grand Pere restaurants with wholesome fruit desserts, Polar Cafe and Au Pain D’antan with great pastries, and Alti’Crepes with its pancake menu.
