Punta Cana. What to Do in the Hottest Place of the Dominican Republic?

This is what a man is like. As soon as the first signs of the approaching winter appear, we crave for more sun, vitamin D, coconut cocktails with a coquettish straw and other endorphin-resulting occupations. So it is quite logical that we want to travel to hot countries during cold seasons. We dream of getting to the most festive point of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana, as soon as possible.

After trying the Caribbean cuisine, sunbathing for a couple of days on milky white powder sand and drinking fresh coconut water, you will understand that island vacation should start like this! Beach holiday is a wonderful way to slow down the pace of life bringing it closer to that of the Dominicans. In a couple of days, after detoxing your thoughts and emotions, you most likely want to leave the villa and the beach and to explore the neighborhood. The good news is that you will never be disappointed when you finally put aside the book and the smartphone.

On Land and Sea

Those who think that families with children will not find what to do on the island will be disappointed. There are plenty of activities for them! If you have never tried surfing or did it before and just want to improve your skills, the coaches at Macao Surf Camp will help you to learn quickly how to stand on the board and ride the wave. They will personally deliver surfboards and lots of coconut water right to your villa. You just need to choose the training option: hourly private lessons, three-five days’ courses or group training. By the way, the last option is the best one as in this case parents with children can have lessons together. On the other hand, it may be better to group by age as you may feel uncomfortable watching your seven-year-old son skillfully riding a wave while you’re stuck in the beginners.

There is no better place for onshore adventures than the Runners Zip Line entertainment center. In fact it is a super rope adventure park in the jungle with the wildly twisting plot. Both children from 6 years old and adults may climb the ropes overcoming clever obstacles. And this is not the only activity for a family loving active rest. You can visit the places where monkey squirrels live who will take fruit from your hands, stroll through the beautiful botanical garden and the coffee plantation and eat as much tropical fruit as you can hold.

The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is just a short drive from the Punta Cana Resort and Club. The park is free for guests staying at the Punta Cana Resort and Club. But even if you live in another place you may participate in excursions. You will love walking in the rainforest or visiting the “Three Eyes” cave, which was called so by Taino Indians who lived on the island and became the history long time ago. The caves really are of the relevant shape. Even the name of the Reserve, Indigenous Eyes, is translates as “the eyes of the Indians”. The jungle is lined with trails which you may explore for two hours and even more. But you won’t get lost as the trails are well-marked. There’s nothing more pleasant as to jump into the lagoon with transparent cool water at the hottest time of the day, which will undoubtedly invigorate and energize you.

A Bit of History

The history of the Dominican Republic is about seafaring and discoveries. We all know who discovered the New World but we know nothing about the life of his descendants. We recommend the history- and adventure- lovers and those with the spirit of filibusters in blood to have a trip to Alcazar de Colon. It is a large 16th-century manor built by Christopher Columbus’s son, Diego, where he lived with his wife, doña Maria. The dwelling house at the same time served as a command center, where they planned Spanish expeditions for gold in the New World. Nowadays, this is a magnificent museum exhibiting the most valuable artifacts of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Alcazar de Colon is located in Santo Domingo, 2-hours’ drive from Punta Cana and really worth your attention!

Need the sea show go on? Well, it’s time to try on the role of Columbus. Does not matter which: father or junior. Since no unexplored places are left on the earth, the main thing here is to discover something new for yourself. You can find such an unexplored place on the island of Saona, which you will reach not on a liner but by twin-hull boat. This is the only way to appreciate the surrounding beauty: turquoise water and bright marine inhabitants, which you can see by simply bending your head. However, snorkeling in these waters is expensive. You will see hundreds of colourful starfish so don’t forget your underwater camera. Celebrate your impressions and successful shots can at the beach bar before going home at sunset. Don’t forget that certain scenes of the famous epic film the “Pirates of the Caribbean” were shot on the beaches of Saona.
