Boasting a panoramic setting overlooking the Adriatic coast, and within easy driving distance of Ostuni, the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, and a number of sandy beaches, this flawlessly finished villa matches elegant interiors and fabulous, multi-functional al fresco areas: the ideal atmosphere for convivial gatherings with family and friends.
The property is divided over two separate wings, a converted stables and the authentic villa. Together they form an L-shape facing a central walled garden with terraces, lawns and a pool. A careful, sensitive renovation has breathed new life into the warmly inviting honey-hued stone walls and the lofty vaulted ceilings of this old building. Every corner, niche and recess has been wonderfully converted into an inspiring space, allowing guests to enjoy a pleasant mix of old-world charm, lovely original features, atmospheric lighting, and subtly chic modern design.
The stables, which are set over one level, offer a long open-concept space consisting of three parts. The main entrance opens in from the walled garden's terraces to a cozy dining area with lofty, vaulted ceilings, white-washed stone walls, a pair of big, arced picture windows, and a long table seating 16. To the left is a bright and airy living area with white dome-vaulted ceilings, a series of deep sofas, a TV, and access to the pool terrace and a guest bathroom with shower.
To the right of the dining area and up a few steps you will find the amazing high-end kitchen, whose exposed golden stone ceilings and walls create an impressive backdrop to the long marble work-top island and some wonderful, designer cabinetry. A door at one end offers easy access to the terraces.
Accommodation in the main house is spread over two levels and includes the sleeping quarters. On the ground level there are six bedrooms, the first four of which are entered directly from the walled garden's terraces. The spacious double-twin bedroom 1 (180/90 × 200) with white vaulted ceilings, an en-suite bathroom with double sinks, and a separate walk-in shower and hammam with a barrel vaulted ceiling and an evocative skylight. The large double bedroom 2 (180 × 200) has exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings pierced by a series of skylights, a pair of in-room sinks placed between structural columns, a partially enclosed walk-in shower, and a separate WC.
The charming double bedroom 3 (180 × 200) with en-suite shower room is located in the oldest part of the house and boasts original stone floors and a series of arches and niches. The double bedroom 4 (200 × 200) with an originally hidden en-suite shower room, a centrally-set bed, and a cushioned alcove with a picture window providing beautiful views out over the surrounding countryside and the sea.
Another door from the walled courtyard terraces opens into a cozy space, whose subtle light and zen-like ambience makes it perfect for yoga. The remaining two bedrooms on the ground level of the main house are on both sides of this space: double-twin bedroom 5 (180/90 × 200) with exposed stone vaulted ceilings, a pastel pink-tiled feature wall, and an en-suite shower room; double bedroom 6 (200 × 200) with a centrally located four-poster bed, an en-suite shower room, and an in-room sunken tub with wonderful countryside and sea views.
A flight of steps leads from the central garden terraces up to the first level of the main house. Here there are two living areas with a lounge space, a bar, views over the property’s central courtyard, access to a wonderfully panoramic terrace, and doors opening into the two last bedrooms: double-twin bedroom 7 (180/90 × 200 см) with white-painted stone walls and, down a few steps, a spacious en-suite bathroom with an open shower; double bedroom 8 with en-suite shower room, stone and blue-tiled walls, and access to the first-level terrace.
The social hub of outdoor living is the central walled gardens, which almost all the ground level rooms of both the stables and the main house open out onto. Terraces equipped for relaxing and sunbathing run around the perimeter and offer access to the centerpiece: a lovely infinity-edge pool. Below the pool are three parallel raised beds, each one several metres long, clad in stone, and planted with organically cultivated vegetables and aroma herbs.
Set over the pool on a slightly raised terrace next to the stable wing is a pretty outdoor dining area, boasting views out over the surrounding countryside and the sea in the distance. Served by a wood-fired oven and a barbecue, this is a great spot for long convivial dinners under the Puglian stars.
The newly planted gardens fan out from the pool area with verdant lawns and paths weaving between the different areas. One such path leads to a charming walled citrus orchard, beyond which is a beach volleyball court and an olive grove. The al fresco areas are completed by the amazing panoramic terrace on the first level of the main house featuring a bar and a fabulous hot tub, making it the perfect spot for aperitifs looking out to sea.
The villa is set in a panoramic location overlooking the Adriatic Sea between the lively port city of Brindisi and the historic town of Carovigno. This latter has ancient roots dating back at least to Greek times and offer plenty to see there, including many churches, an amazing 15th-century castle, and a labyrinthine old town centre, not to mention a good choice of restaurants, cafés and shops.
Down on the coast below the property is a series of Blue Flag beaches, including those at Torre Santa Sabina and Specchiolla. One of the main attractions of the area is the Torre Guaceto Nature and Marine Reserve, which is home to sandy beaches, dunes, woods, coral reefs, fields of posidonia, wetlands, walking trails and a wide variety of flora and fauna.
A 20-minute drive to the north will take you to the fabulous old town Ostuni, while a little further afield are the scenic centres of the Valle d'Itria, including Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, and Alberobello. Heading south into Salento, an easy drive (around 45 minutes) will bring you to the magnificent baroque city of Lecce, which is well worth a day trip.
