This impressive waterfront mansion is spread over three levels and can accommodate up to 22 guests in its 10 bedrooms. Marquis Eugenio Besana built this villa on the shores of Lake Como in 1891, in some measure inspired by the quietness of the setting and by its proximity to the enchanting town of Bellagio. In 1920, a wealthy Italian tycoon purchased the property as his private residence and today, his grandsons are still the current owners. During the last hundred years, four generations of the same family have implemented their passion for culture and style and transformed the mansion into a chic holiday property and real museum. During the renovation works in 2019 full air conditioning and tennis court were added to the villa amenities.
The property can be accessed by car or boat, due to its two private entrances. The spacious terrace on the ground level offers an amazing 180-degree view: nowhere else on Lake Como you'll hane the opportunity to admire divine vistas of iconic landmarks such as the town of Bellagio in one direction, Menaggio and Tremezzo directly across the lake, and in the near distance, Villa Balbianello. The terrace is equipped with a cozy living room and two lounges with enormous windows overlooking the lake.
The private heated swimming pool, close to the generous terrace, allows to enjoy this landscape while relaxing in complete serenity. The pool area is equipped with comfortable lounge chairs and al fresco dining. The pool is not fenced, but can be easily closed with an electrical shutter. Guests of the villa have also the opportunity to use a brand new tennis court, located at about 40 meters above the water level. This tennis court offers one of the most stunning views on Lake Como. While playing tennis, you can at the same time admire the lake with the majestic Alps as a backdrop.
The property is surrounded by a private botanical garden boasting centenary trees, fantastic colors, and delicate aromas. The estates' exclusive location on Lake Como offers a panoramic shoreline walk of more than 300 meters. These picturesque gardens (of about four hectares) climb along the mountain and benefit from marvelous views.
The interiors (approx. 1500 sq. m) are appointed with typical Italian 19th-20th century furniture. Here, details attire the attention and include the massive marble fireplace, the long tail piano, the Murano chandeliers, the beuatiful paintings and the dark oak boiserie, and gorgeous walnut-coffered ceilings. In addition to the guest dedicated areas, there is also a basement (accessible only to the staff) that houses a laundry room, a wine cellar, and a second semi-professional kitchen. The mansion is spread over three level – please note that there are a lot of steps to access different levels of the villa.
The ground level features the main dining room that easily seats up to 20 guests (a perfect setting for a private party) and the generous living room with fabulous views. At the same level, the villa also includes a game room, with two card tables and ambient lighting for late-night games as well as a fully-equipped contemporary kitchen and a guest WC.
The first level can be accessed either by the main staircase (31 steps) or through the secondary service stairs. Here a huge oak library greets the guests, with its nearly 30,000 rare and antique books covering a great variety of topics of human knowledge.
Four spacious, chic, and cozy suites with en-suite bathrooms accommodating 8 guests are located on the first level. The first and second bedrooms both with King-size bed (can be split to twins) and en-suite bathroom with tub & shower face the lake and offer access to a lovely terrace. Bedroom 2 also boasts its own sitting area. The third suite has windows over the southern side of the botanical garden and the lake, double bed (can be split to twins) and en-suite bathroom with shower. The fourth suite is situated right in front of a giant Lebanon Cedar and features King-size bed, en-suite bathroom with tub & shower and dressing room.
Second level housing the remaining standard bedrooms, wonderfully furnished and decorated, but surely less chic than the four previous suites, is accessed by a stairway of 29 steps. This level has 6 bedrooms (sleeping 14 guests), 6 bathrooms and a living room with TV. Kids' bedroom 5 features four single beds (two of them can be joined) and en-suite bathroom with tub & shower. Bedroom 6 offers double bed (can be split to twins) and en-suite bathroom with shower. Bedrooms 7, 8 and 9 each includes King-size bed and en-suite bathroom (1 with shower and 2 with bathtub). Bedroom 10 offers double bed (can be split to twins) and private bathroom with shower (not en-suite).
Nestled directly on Lake Como, not far away from the world famous Villa Carlotta, DLI 0285 is a few minutes away from the scenic village of Bellagio (also referred to as "The Pearl of The Lake") and just half an hour drive from the renowned Menaggio Golf Club. The exclusive location and relatively mild climate make Bellagio a very popular year-round destination. Guests will be enchanted and pleased by its stone-made stairs and the vertical structure of the town, by the stylish shops where time seems to have stopped, by its porticos - perfect for a romantic walk - and numerous bars where a cup of delicious espresso or hot chocolate can be enjoyed.
