This large 3-bedroom villa (375 sqm) is spread over two levels with a separate loft, three spacious terraces, a 13 × 4m heated private pool, and jungle views. The property is built from Joglos (a traditional Javanese wooden house) joined by a bridge up among the treetops. The villa is part of a 2-villa estate set on a plot of 2,400 sqm. The estate is a real home, not a hotel, and so you feel yourself differently here. Neither the space nor the schedule is imposed upon you, but rather you set - and reset - your own pace of life. Eventually, you end up living in the present moment, slowing down and often smiling a lot more.
The kitchen, living, and dining room are organized within a shared open space that leads onto a terrace and to the private pool. The second level houses two bedrooms (35 and 40 sqm) with adjacent bathrooms and a small lounge area with a sofa and TV. The 45 sqm terrace joins with a bridge to the third (studio) bedroom (75 sqm).
Entering the house from the courtyard and taking off your shoes as you descend the few wooden steps to the door, it takes a moment for the space to fully unfold before you. A central atrium takes the whole ground level, rising 9m high to the traditional woven ceiling, crowned with three huge Balinese lamps. Floor-to-ceiling windows surround you, framing the panoramic view. Despite its size, it feels cozy among all this nature hidden by the lush jungle at its doorstep.
Dark wood makes the glass house look harmoniously amongst its natural environment - seen in the low marble-topped table at the center of the living room, surrounded by soft cushioned chairs; the long sideboard filled with paperback books, games, and audio speakers (offering you multiple choices on how to spend your evenings).
A pretty garden and pool view is granted from every seat at the long dining table for up to 10 guests, making time spent preparing food in the L- L-shaped wooden kitchen equally pleasant. Local teas, spices, and ceramics in which to serve them, can be found in the walk-in pantry.
As you climb the exterior wooden staircase to the first level, the balcony offers views of the sacred Campuhan Hill. Your senses are engaged differently up here - a new view across the valley, new bird songs each morning. Enjoy a moment soaking up the view on the outdoor daybed, an ideal vantage point.
The upper level is finished with lighter, reclaimed wood - if you look closely you can notice its intricacies and faded carvings. A mezzanine lounge joins two bedrooms, offering a space to take in your surroundings (indoors and out) and an extra spot to sit in each morning or relax before going to sleep. Both bedrooms boast sunrise, pool, garden, and jungle views, large double beds (200 × 200), outdoor showers, and terrace access.
A bridge leads to the third bedroom/studio with a double bed (180 × 200), private kitchen, living/dining space, bathroom with bath and shower, and a secluded terrace. A loft space finished in Joglo reclaimed timber combines traditional Indonesian architecture with a European lifestyle. The generous open main room offers plenty of space for rest. At one end, curl up into a soft double bed hidden by its white linen mosquito net, at the other, sink into a deep 3-sided sofa lounge.
The central space is dedicated to living - settle into the bench seating around the marble-topped table for long lunches (a small writing desk is placed to one side for more work-related matters), admire blue skies while making dinner in the wood-crafted kitchen, or climb into the hammock, hanging from overhead beams, for an ultimate sundowner moment.
The reclaimed wood paneling is the most charming in the separate bathroom. Sink deep into the bath fragrant with local flower petals, looking out on the tops of palms through the hand-painted windows. Glass doors open onto the balcony, where you can enjoy the most panoramic uninterrupted views over the estate. A two-person table feels like the most private and special spot.
The estate offers shared access, parking, security, and gardens where fresh coconuts, papayas, and passion fruit grow as well as a 200 sqm bamboo pavilion, designed and built by Ibuku (creators of the Green School) and Studio Jencquel. Here you can play some football or basketball with your children or use the weights and bench for a workout.
The estate is located at a convenient walking distance of some of Ubud’s best dining venues. At the same time, the home has been thoughtfully designed to offer a feeling of privacy and seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the town. Ubud center is 2.5 km away, which takes 40 minutes to walk or 10 minutes to drive.
