Perched between Apt and Bonnieux, in the heart of Provence and the Luberon Natural Park, this fabulous estate spreads over 116 hectares, of which 25 are dedicated to vines. Dating back to the 13th century, it is the oldest wine estate in the Luberon that used to be a summer residence of the Avignon popes. Surrounded by fields, not overlooked, its exceptional location grants a stunning view of the surroundings. Its interior design harmoniously combines rustic charm and modernity. The thoroughly chosen and modern design creates a cozy and welcoming ambiance, while the French-style garden adds to the villa's sophistication.
Close to some of Provence's most charming hilltop villages (Gordes, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Roussillon), this historic Luberon wine estate is an exceptional heritage site. Recently restored by a famous architect, it keeps the grandeur of the Renaissance and Middle Ages and opens out onto wonderful landscaped gardens.
The château's 7 bedrooms and the 5 bedrooms in the two dependencies can accommodate up to 24 guests. The three spacious living rooms with fireplaces, one of which is vaulted, lead onto the terraces and offer the ideal spot for gatherings with family and friends. Take a revitalizing dip in the château's swimming pool or that of one by the annex house, enjoy lunch in the shade, stroll through the lovely paths of the landscaped garden, wander through the vineyards and woods, and finish off with a game of pétanque.
6 bedrooms are located on the château's first level and 1 is found on the garden level. 6 bedrooms offer king-size beds (180 cm) and en-suite shower rooms while the 7th has twin beds (90 cm) and a bathroom.
The charming 70 sqm apartment 1 is found on the first level of a building below the medieval chapel. Very peaceful and cozy, beautifully decorated, it boasts superb views of the Mont Ventoux. The apartment includes a generous living room/eat-in kitchen (fully equipped), 2 double bedrooms (1 bed 160 cm, 2 beds 90 cm) overlooking the château gardens; a shower room with a double sink; a separate toilet; a utility room with washer-dryer. Outside there is a table with chairs in the shade. Parking is available 40 m away.
Elegantly decorated 150 sqm duplex apartment 2 sits next to (yet apart from) the old converted winery, now the wine-tasting room: a green oasis with a small sunny pool (5 × 2.5 m) and shaded lunch area in a pretty garden. There is a parking space with an electric charging plug.
Ground level: entrance hall, spacious living room with office corner, eat-in kitchen and utility room (washer-dryer), toilet. First level: master bedroom (bed 160 cm) and en-suite shower room with double sinks, dressing room; two further double bedrooms with twin beds; one bathroom; separate toilet.
The estate is north-facing, located on exceptional soils at the crossing of the Luberon’s main geological axis. The local micro-climate is influenced by winds coming from the Rhône Valley as well as the high Provençal plateau. Altitude, a strong daily thermal amplitude, and a notable quantity of old vines give the estate wines their unique character and freshness.
Begin your day with a refreshing dip in the outdoor swimming pool (14 × 5), then make a Provençal lunch using vegetables from your own garden. In the afternoon, enjoy a walk through the château’s vineyards or read a good book by the fireplace. On your return, gather for a barbecue dinner and soak in the sunset over Lubéron’s oldest wine estate.
Symbolic of the typical landscapes of Provence, the Luberon massif covers over 60 kilometers of picturesque landscapes, with preserved fauna and flora. Its villages, soaked with a unique cultural heritage, welcome you to wander under the southern sun, to the rhythm of the cicada song. The ochre colors of Roussillon, the magnificent view from the heights of the village of Gordes, a visit to the imposing castle of Lourmarin, the Provencal market of Bonnieux... The villages of the region offer a great number of unusual activities. Honey, olive oil, truffles, goat cheese, and candied fruits are some of the typical dishes and witnesses of the genuine expertise of Luberon, which will please the taste buds of the local produce enthusiasts.
