Dating back to 1650 and renovated over the past 12 years to the highest standard, this magnificent castle is the perfect French getaway. With its rich history, you’ll have 60 acres of park and woodlands, 22 rooms over 3 levels, and a well-equipped gourmet kitchen at your disposal. Enjoy the full use of the chateau as if it's your own home or as an option, you can choose a fully serviced stay with a chef and housekeeping.
Rural and isolated, yet easily accessible from the UK and Paris, the chateau is situated in the center of Basse Normandie, close to the historical sites: D Day beaches, Bayeux Tapestries, and Mont St Michel being only 50 minutes drive away.
The ground level offers such main rooms as a gallery, living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are lots of sofas and 3 separate dining tables seating up to 8 - 18 guests. In addition, you'll find an amazing fully equipped kitchen, breakfast room, library in the tower, DVD/Chromecast/Wi-Fi, 2 grand pianos, games room with table football & pinball machine.
The chateau currently offers 9 bedrooms – 7 of them are en-suite, while the other 2 are adjacent to their own shared bathroom. All rooms offer double beds except for one which has 2 single beds. The master suite boasts its dressing room and snug. Bedrooms are placed on the middle and top levels accordingly.
As well as the great choice of outdoor activities there is a small gym in the cellar and a tennis court behind the vegetable garden. The Château is surrounded by lovely lawned gardens leading to both the White Terrace and the charming walled vegetable garden. For most of the year, you will find fresh fruit and vegetables all grown in an absolutely organic environment. Listed as a site classé, the 60 acres of private park and woodlands can be explored at any time of the year. Stroll through the numerous restored footpaths.
You'll also find 14 massive stone crosses within the woods. This road was a popular site of pilgrimage for many years. The woods lead through the Chemin Croix to La Chapelle-sur-Vire with its Abbey and the Route de Halage – a cycling and hiking path leading all the way to the coast. You can also visit Roches de Ham just several kilometers away where there are the tallest inland cliffs in Normandy and a lovely creperie.
Within a short drive of the Château, there are the three main sights of Normandy – the D-Day beaches, Mont St Michel, and the Bayeux Tapestry. Or you can just explore the coast, countryside or other chateaux and their gardens. The Battle for Normandy lasted from 6 June 1944 until the end of August. There are many museums and battlefield sites to visit.
Dating back to the 8th Century, the Mont is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of France's most famous landmarks. We recommend an evening visit after the crowds have left.
Bayeux tapestry is a striking evocation of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 when the French defeated the English. Bayeux itself offers lots of wonderful ancient buildings as it was the only town that managed to escape being damaged by the battle for Normandy.
There are many abbeys, castles, and gardens to visit in the region as well as the wide open beaches of the Cotentin Peninsular. And don't forget to visit the local market where you can buy everything from fresh vegetables and cheese to live lobster.
