Nestled in a magnificent panoramic setting with sweeping views of the southern Corsica mountains and the Gulf of Valinco, this charming villa is a modern interpretation of a traditional sheepfold, full of charm, warmth, and soul. Built mainly from recycled materials, this beautifully decorated and lovingly furnished house invites guests to immerse themselves in a world of pure pastoral serenity.
The main entrance opens into an impressive hallway with a barrel-vaulted ceiling made of red brick. To the right and left are a pair of lovely bedrooms with double beds (160 × 200 cm), high sloping ceilings with wooden beams, and charmingly finished bathrooms with showers and separate toilets. One of them offers magnificent views of the hills and the Gulf of Valinco.
At the end of the hallway is the heart of the house — a surprisingly spacious open-plan communal area that exudes charm and character. On one side, under high ceilings with wooden beams, is a living room featuring a large, deep sofa and a pair of classic leather armchairs arranged around a fireplace, above which hangs a large mirror in a gilded frame, as well as wooden floors and an early 19th-century chandelier. On one side of the fireplace is a window overlooking the countryside and the sea, and on the other is a door leading to a staircase connecting the villa to the gardens
On the other side of this common area, through a wide, partially glazed opening, is a charming kitchen/dining room. In the center, set on traditional Corsican patterned tiles, stands a wooden dining table with retro chairs. Along the entire main wall is a line of custom-made wooden cabinetry, a large sink, SMEG appliances, and several sections lined with locally produced grey square tiles. A pair of windows lets in bright sunlight, and a door at one end leads to a guest toilet and laundry room.
Finally, at the far end of the living room is the third bedroom, a generously proportioned room with double-aspect windows, four single beds (90 × 200 cm), a view of the Gulf of Valinco, and a shower room with double sinks and a separate toilet.
The villa's grounds blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape of rolling hills, native scrub, olive trees, holm oaks, and mastic trees. Completely immersed in nature, not to mention the stunning views of the wooded mountains, kilometers of Corsica's southern coastline, and the sparkling blue waters of the Gulf of Valinco, guests can relax in an atmosphere of absolute peace and beauty.
The door in the living room opens onto stone steps leading down to the terrace and another flight of stairs descending under shady trees. Below is a fabulous pool terrace, a multi-dimensional open-air space where you will undoubtedly spend most of your time. The terrace is surrounded on three sides by wooden decking, decorative grass, and comfortable teak furniture, with a wonderful heated swimming pool (8 × 3 m) as the focal point.
Beside the pool, shaded by a terracotta-tiled roof, there is an outdoor dining area and a well-equipped summer kitchen with a plancha grill, stone sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator. It is a wonderful place for cooking, dining, and socializing at any time of the day.
A few more steps down on one side of the pool terrace, you will find a square-shaped lounge area with even more stunning views. It's hard to imagine a better place for an aperitif at sunset or a drink after dinner under the stars. There are various secluded corners scattered throughout the grounds under the trees, one of which has a hammock suspended in the shade, perfect for an afternoon nap.
Built at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level in the mountains northeast of Propriano, the villa is literally immersed in nature. Wooded peaks and rocky outcrops create a sense of seclusion, birds of prey circle in the sky, and gorgeous panoramas spread to take in views of the southern coast of Corsica, the Gulf of Valinco, and the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea.
The surrounding area is a paradise for hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities enthusiasts, with a wide range of trails to choose from. There are endless sandy beaches in the Gulf of Valinco. The closest ones to the villa (within a 30-minute drive) are located in Propriano and its surroundings (Plage de Baraci, Capu Laurosu, and Capicciolo).
There is a restaurant nearby in the village of Fozzano (5 minutes' drive). For a wider range of facilities, including restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, and water sports, head to Propriano (25 minutes). Its marina is a pleasant place to spend an hour or two sipping coffee or dining by the water.
Just a few kilometers from Propriano, at the south-western tip of the Gulf of Valinco, is Campomoro. This little village, dominated by a Genoese tower, offers an elegant arc of golden sand, blue waters, and a multitude of bars, cafés, and restaurants. It is also an excellent place for hiking, with numerous trails crisscrossing the untouched green hills that rise to form a headland at an altitude of about 4,500 meters above sea level. The coastline stretching west and south of the village is dotted with numerous picturesque coves and tiny beaches, most of which can only be reached by boat. A day spent sailing from one cove to another, dropping anchor, and diving into the irresistible waters is a truly unique experience.
To admire Corsica's thousands of years of history, don't miss a visit to the nearby megalithic site of Filitosa. Inhabited almost continuously from the 9th millennium BCE to the 3rd century BCE, the site's olive groves, forests, and open countryside hold many archaeological finds, from carved menhir statues to Bronze Age stone towers and much more.
About a 30-minute drive south will bring you to the medieval town of Sartène with its panoramic views, whose beautiful labyrinth of streets gives an insight into life in Corsica away from the coast. Equally interesting is the village of Olmeto, whose colorful houses and location on a steep, wooded hill create an atmosphere that evokes memories.
Just over an hour and a half's drive to the north-west will take you to the capital of Corsica, Ajaccio. This town is definitely worth a visit, as it is the birthplace of the great Napoleon. Approximately 75 km to the southeast is Bonifacio, one of the most picturesque and impressive towns in Corsica. Perched on a high cliff above the sea, it offers magnificent views of Sardinia and a wide selection of restaurants and bars.
