This old stone house, dating back to 1890, stands proudly on a small hill among vineyards, overlooking the Gironde estuary in the distance. A wine château abandoned for over thirty years, the new owners have transformed it into a unique and beautiful home surrounded by the prestigious vineyards of the Médoc region. Behind the mansion-like façade and the ultra-modern raised terrace lies an individual and cosy interior, the design of which is worthy of the pages of the most beautiful magazines.
Architects and interior designers from Bordeaux were invited to work on this ambitious project (A-GraM for architecture, Ciel Ouvert for landscape, and Coutume Studio for decoration), ensuring that the château’s heritage was preserved, while complemented by many 21st-century details with an emphasis on sustainability.
As you stroll through this amazing 320 sqm home, you can appreciate its stylish interior and impressive modern amenities, including an audio system, high-end speakers, and a video projector with access to Prime, Netflix, and Apple TV. The semi-professional kitchen is a dream for any chef, and meals can be served in the sophisticated dining room or on the shady upper terrace. In the living room, you can relax with a glass of Premier Cru Classé wine while listening to music on the record player. All shared spaces are located on the main level.
The three bedrooms, located on the first level, are equally magnificent, with no expense spared — guests can enjoy king-size beds (180 × 200 cm) with the highest quality bed linen, as well as Dyson hairdryers, organic local cosmetics, and Italian marble sinks in the private bathrooms (one with a bathtub and two with showers). The chateau even has its own signature scent, created by the owners' favourite London-based perfumer, who trained in Paris and Grasse.
Here you can soak up the authenticity of the surroundings on 3.5 acres (approximately 1.5 hectares) of gardens surrounded by vineyards. Relax on Italian designer furniture around the 15-metre natural swimming pool (maximum depth 1.4 m), enjoy a picnic on the extensive lawns, and admire the view towards the Gironde estuary from the upper terrace beside the Weber barbecue. The bottom of the pool can be raised to create a charming terrace.
Surrounded by vineyards typical of the region, the château is located on the edge of a small village on the Médoc peninsula, within a short walk from the banks of the Gironde estuary and a 90-minute drive from Bordeaux. In the village, you can visit a restaurant overlooking the Gironde. If you are planning your holiday in July/August, check out the popular oyster hut, a 15-minute walk away, where you can enjoy a plate of oysters, charcuterie, or local cheeses paired with wine. Additional amenities, including a supermarket and other restaurants, can be found 11 km away in the town of Lesparre-Médoc.
On the Médoc peninsula, wine lovers can visit many wonderful vineyards located a short drive away (from small family-run wineries to prestigious wine châteaux, including Mouton-Rothschild, Latour, and Château Beychevelle). The wine town of Margaux (52 km) is less than an hour's drive away, and lovely Pauillac (23 km) is even closer. There is an excellent restaurant in nearby Saint-Estèphe (14 km), and one of the best local markets in Saint-Vivien-de-Médoc (20 km). Enjoy all the delicacies this region has to offer, including fresh mussels, oysters, and foie gras, accompanied, of course, by some of the best wines in the world.
The fabulous Atlantic beaches of the Médoc peninsula are also within easy reach, with Soulac-sur-Mer and Montalivet les Bains about half an hour's drive away and Lacanau, famous for its surfing, 55 km away. Explore beautiful horse riding and cycling routes through the sand dunes and pine forests of the peninsula's Atlantic coast, following part of the La Vélodyssée route, which stretches to Arcachon Bay.
Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans is France's largest freshwater lake, boasting exciting biodiversity, lakeside beaches, and seasonal water activities. Étang de Lacanau is another idyllic spot for walking, cycling, fishing, and boating.
For a complete change of scenery, you can also spend a day in Bordeaux (75 km) with its gorgeous sights, restaurants, wine bars, boat trips, and the famous La Cité du Vin wine museum.
