A stunning renovation has returned Sixties design style to this white-washed villa with its wraparound terrace, complementing it with modern facilities. ECI 0209 is an amazing seafront villa set above a private beach just outside Cefalù (10-minutes drive) with its Norman cathedral, a lovely little harbour town on Sicily’s north coast, just under an hour from Palermo.
The main house accommodates 8 in its 4 double bedrooms. The villa benefits from a wraparound terrace on both the ground and first levels and interiors that feature geometric patterns, mid-century furniture, Sicilian tiles and a stunning combination of space and light. It is movie-set ideal, both inside and out, with views of and direct access to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
A house is fit for any season: during the warmer months guests prefer to stay on the wide terrace with its wonderful sea-view. The underfloor heating and fireplace provide coziness and warmth in the cooler months while the view stays breathtaking all year round – the ideal place for those looking for an authentic Sicilian holiday.
There are four double bedrooms upstairs, all of which open out to the wraparound covered terrace, and views of the sea. Geometric patterns, a Sixties-inspired colour palette of sea greens, blues and taupe, billowing linen curtains and beautiful Sicilian tiles bring colour and texture to the large rooms, as do the big, comfy beds and linen sheets.
There are five bathrooms in total, four upstairs attached to the bedrooms, and a guest one downstairs. All offer showers, one has a bath, as well. Sixties coastal design is featured in the geometric elements that include portholes and the same colour palette as the bedrooms, with contemporary fixtures and fittings. There is a shower outside.
The villa includes a pretty kitchen with a long rectangular pivot window that will distract you with its view. Perfectly equipped, it opens onto the dining area although, with such amazing sea vistas, for most of the year guests will probably prefer to dine outside on the terrace.
The house’s spacious living room opens onto the terrace from two sides and boasts the same stunning sea views. Large hexagonal floor tiles combine with the Sixties-inspired furniture providing plenty of space to sit and unwind. If you prefer relaxing listening to the sound of waves lapping against the shore, there are lots of chairs and sun-loungers outside. The laundry room is available on the ground level.
Villa is nestled directly above the sea and enjoys private access to the beach below via steps carved into the rock. The generous terrace provides a first-row seat for the striking sunrises and sunsets and all sea-related adventures in-between, and offers all the right chairs, loungers and sofas from which to soak up the view, as well as a dining table, an outside shower and a 6 sq. m Jacuzzi. There is private parking and olive trees surround the property while the wraparound upstairs terrace can be accessed from every bedroom. The stairs in the villa are open-sided and not convenient for families with little kids.
It's very pleasant to explore the coast line of the northern part of Sicily towards Palermo and beyond. The villa is situated close to Cefalù, a small UNESCO world heritage town with a Norman cathedral east of Palermo on the northern coast of Sicily. The nearest airport in Palermo can be reached in 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. Within 5-monute drive from the villa you will find several restaurants in Cefalu. During summer months this lovely town can get a bit overcrowded with tourists.
The coast right below is not private but there are two beaches by the villa. One is the beach at Mazzaforno, which is about a six or seven minute walk. The second beach, Settefrati, is almost like a private and secret beach that looks like a nature reserve, which can be accessed within a 12-minute walk.
There’s the wonderful town of Santo Stefano di Camastra, just a few kilometers from Cefalú, that is well-known for its ceramics and tiles. The Eolian islands are also very nice to visit. There’s a direct connection from Cefalú to Lipari, which makes for an easy trip if you want to spend one or two days exploring the seven different volcanic islands. These islands are all very different, Lipari is the biggest, Panarea is quite fashionable and Stromboli has an active volcano, which you can climb with a guide.
