Concealed by the local stone that covers its walls and terraces, and immersed in lush greenery, this wonderful villa appears discreetly from its desirable location above the sea on Serifos's south coast. Creative design, traditional architectural elements, and inspiring modern touches are present throughout, including its many charming terraces that slope gently down to the beach below.
Accommodation is spread over three levels, each separately accessed from the terraces. On the top level is the main house. Two sets of French doors welcome you from a shady terrace into a light and cozy open-concept communal space. At one end is a modern dining table, while at the other is a living area with well-cushioned built-in sofas, a couple of elegant chairs, and a fireplace. Four sets of windows open the gorgeous sea views and a third set of French doors leads out onto a shaded, panoramic dining terrace.
Where design and décor are concerned, this space showcases the overall aesthetics of the property, with its white-washed stone walls, smooth grey concrete flooring, soaring beamed ceilings (here in warm wood and cane), and grey door surrounds and window frames (the vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms are also painted grey). This calming palette is completed by lively splashes of color in the form of artworks and soft furnishings bringing a certain vivacity to the overall ambiance.
An opening to one side of the dining area leads into a corridor with French doors onto the dining terrace to one side, and a well-designed and perfectly-fitted kitchen to the other. A big, central island in stainless steel offers plenty of prep space, a pair of glass-fronted fridges add to the professional feel, a line of five hobs on a concrete workstation adds a modern touch and a sink area clad in marble is both functional and beautiful. Parallel to the kitchen behind a partition wall is a practical service area and a pantry.
At the far end of the corridor leading from the dining and living area, you will find the main house's two double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and pairs of French doors accessing the terraces that wrap around the front and side. One of them offers beautiful sea views.
The middle level (accessed externally via steps from the top level's terrace) includes two independent guesthouses. The first features: a sea-view suite 3 with a double/twin bed, a big cushioned built-in sofa, a dressing room, an en-suite shower room with a triple-length marble sink, and access to the terraces via a pair of French doors; double/twin bedroom 4, also with sea views, an en-suite shower room, and French doors opening out onto the terraces. An interconnecting door between these two bedrooms can be left open for parents with kids, or locked to grant privacy. The second guesthouse on the middle level comprises a sea-view double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and French doors accessing the terraces.
The third level, again accessed externally via steps running between the terraces, houses a brilliant bedroom 6 with a centrally set double bed, a pair of armchairs, sea views, an elegant fireplace, a walk-in wardrobe, five sets of French doors accessing the terraces, and a beautiful glazed en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, double-length marble sink, and a fabulous marble bathtub.
Time at this villa is meant to be spent outdoors, as is evident due to the numerous stone-clad terraces that slope organically down towards the sea. Each one boasts spacious shaded areas, comfortably furnished zones, sun-kissed space for sunbathing, and stunning sea views. Enlivened by brightly colored climbing plants, lined by whispering trees and aromatic low-lying Mediterranean shrubs, these terraces are particularly magnificent as the sun sets and hundreds of fairy lights, working in ideal harmony with the moon above, create a warm, cozy feel that will remain in the memory for years.
On the top level, the kitchen, and the living and dining area open onto a shaded sea-view terrace with a couple of long tables, built-in cushioned seating, and benches. This terrace runs along the front of the house (where it can be accessed from the sea-view bedroom on the top level) and around the side, where it widens (and is accessed from the second bedroom on the top level). More shade, another long table, a wood-burning oven, a barbecue, and easy access to the kitchen make this most guests' best-loved option for outdoor dining. The top level's alfresco areas are completed by a private spot with a tennis table and a second wood-fired oven outside the kitchen and the main entrance to the living and dining area.
Stone steps lead down from the top to the middle level, where two more large areas of shady and sun-kissed terrace run along the entire façade of the property, providing more space for unwinding, taking a nap, or enjoying an aperitif. As with all the villa's exterior spaces, the furnishings are of high quality and arranged so that there's enough space for everyone. All three bedrooms on this level open onto these terraces.
From the middle level, one has two options: take a flight of steps down to the lower level bedroom suite, which benefits from its own fully furnished shady terrace; or follow meandering shallow steps down to a generous panoramic belvedere above the sea. Equipped with sun loungers and partially shaded by olive trees, this area is also the gateway for those wishing to head down to the rocky-pebbly beach to swim in the tempting jade and sapphire waters of the Aegean.
The villa is nestled on the south coast of Serifos, just a couple of kilometers from Livadi, whose port, marina, shops, tavernas, and amazing arc of sand are about 20-to-25 minutes' walk away. While the property has direct access to a small pebbly-stony cove shared with one other villa (though other visitors may occasionally moor in the bay), there are plenty of other options for lovers of sandy beaches, including those at Karavi and Livadakia (both at walking distance) and Livadi, Kalo Ampeli, Vagia, Agios Sostis and Psili Amos (all within a 10- to 15-minute drive).
Ancient Serifos Town, or Chora, wraps around a rocky peak some 230m above Livadi. Featuring a host of traditional white-washed houses, several amazing churches, and a collection of historic windmills, it also benefits from glorious panoramas that are well worth the 15-minute drive up the winding road. During the summer months, the town's bars, cafés, and tavernas spill out onto the charming streets and squares to create a dreamy vibe.
While Serifos's coastline is characterized by its numerous sandy beaches, rocky coves, and bays, its inland features sparsely populated highlands (with hills rising to more than 500m above sea level) and dotted with white-washed, blue-domed churches and monasteries.
Measuring just 11km by 11km, the island is easy to explore in a week. There's a "main" road that runs in a figure of 8 on a southwest-northeast axis, with other minor roads and tracks leading off this to the numerous beaches, hamlets, and churches around the island. When it comes to the coast, however, we recommend you hire a boat for a couple of days (or the whole of your stay) and explore Serifos's myriad marine attractions from the water.
