Welcome to this lovely and distinguished country hideaway, home of Alexis de Tocqueville, iconic figure of the ideals of democracy and justice. The Tower wing, the castle’s amazing square tower, now offers accommodation – independent from the rest of the Chateau – for you, your family, your friends and colleagues!

The château is an unbelievable and exclusive mix of styles thanks to the three different construction periods (16th, 18th and 19th century). This architectural diversity creates a special charm of the house but respects its harmony as well. As its architecture and history, the castle is considered a national landmark and is listed among France’s Patrimoine National.

The fabulous square Tower wing, situated on the South side of the castle, comprises 4 levels of 100 sq. m each. It has recently been fully restored with all contemporary amenities, while keeping the old style and charm of the original chateau.

On the ground level you have the opportunity to relax around a large fireplace dating back to the 17th century. There is also a library area as well as a kitchen and a dining area. There is an independent entrance and a guest toilet. An elevator will bring you to the rooms on the upper levels. On the second level you will find the bedrooms 1 and 2. On the third level you will enter the bedroom 3, where you will able to sleep in Alexis de Tocqueville’s own bedframe and the bedroom 4. This level offers sea view as the castle is 4 km away from the seaside. On the last level you will admire the beamed ceiling of the bedroom 5 as well as the family room with its home cinema. Every room includes a reading area and has its own bathroom with either a bathtub or a shower or both. Every level is accessed by lift. All levels are equipped with the internet and Wi-Fi on the ground level.

As you enter the Tower, built in 1893, you will pass through a small entrance hall with a closet, a guest toilet and a hidden lift! The ground level features a spacious living-room space; a fireplace will invite you to unwind in the cozy sofas. On the opposite side of the level there is a dining area with a long family table, a separate contemporary and comfortable kitchen, and a reading area. The walls are adorned with historical portraits.

On the first level, the bedroom 1 brings you back to the 18th century with the English Soho tapestery of a royal wedding. The room is offered with a king size bed or 2 twin beds (90cm). The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and hand held shower. The room offers views over the pond with a pair of white swans.

On the same level there is bedroom 2 with its 19th century style canopy. It offers a king size bed or 2 twin beds (90cm). The bathroom offers a view on the willow tree and the country landscape and is equipped with a shower.

Once you enter the second level you will discover the bedroom 3. You will also have the chance of sleeping in Alexis de Tocqueville’s own bed, a charming 18the century Napoleon style bed! This room offers 2 separate beds (185 × 130 cm each). The bathroom features Italian shower with white and golden tiles. On the opposite side of the tower you will find the bedroom 4 with its four poster king size bed facing the country side and its adjacent bathroom equipped with a bathtub and a shower.

On the 3rd level there is a romantic suite with its four poster king size bed and art deco style bathroom equipped with bathtub or a shower.

The six-hectare park of the property was designed in 1836 by Alexis de Tocqueville’s wife, who was English. Avoiding the rigidities of the classical French garden, she created in front of the house a romantic English style garden, with a small refined lake, wide lawns, walks under ancient oaks and willows. In the old joinery, you will discover a small exhibition was created in 2005 discovering Alexis de Tocqueville life and achievements. If you are keen on sports, you can enjoy the tennis court or go for a jogging in the park. You can also follow the tracks for Grandes Randonnées (GR) in the Val de Saire or go for a swim at the nearby beaches.
