This fabulous, fairytale hilltop chateau overlooks one of France’s most wonderful regions – the Dordogne’s Perigord Noir. Completely renovated, the chateau keeps all its authentic classic features whilst offering comfortable stay with extraordinary period charm. It is surrounded by a 100-acre forest providing striking views from the high cliff edges and allowing for walks to the dilapidated walls of ancient Roman church ruin.
Chateau also boasts exclusive facilities – an amazing cliff top pool, relaxing courtyards, historic ramparts, outdoor dining experience with views over the Dordogne river, multi terraced gardens and a ultra-modern private spa with a steam room, a zen waterfall, a yoga studio and a fully equipped gym.
The mansion overlooking the Dordogne valley was originally built in the 11th century, the current building was restored in the 19th century resulting in this fabulous chateau. The castle has an exceptional history. It played an important role in the 14th century 100-year war and many other historical events including the United States French ambassador writing important diplomatic letters to Thomas Jefferson from within the castle’s library.
Chateau is perfectly situated for your exploration of this amazing region which offers over 1000 chateau’s, many Michelin restaurants, famous markets, Knight Templar citadels and not to mention the great number of activities – canoeing, cycling, rock climbing, hot air ballooning and much more.
The property includes 9 highly appointed bedroom suites all with views over the Dordogne valley, a Royal suite boasting its own turret, a fantastic bathroom, a lounge area with fabulous views and a separate bedroom with a tall stone cathedral vaulted ceiling and stain glass windows. There are also a grande salon with stunning painted ceilings and a massive fireplace, a large classic French gourmet chef kitchen, a period library with an original tapestry, oil paintings and many interesting artifacts, a period dining room with original classic features, painted walls, authentic chandeliers. The outdoor amenities feature a generous enclosed courtyard and 2 open air lounge areas for evening relaxing, as well as an al-fresco dining area overlooking the Dordogne valley.
The chateau is a really enchanting place available for high-end celebrations, weddings and special events or just a magical getaway for a group of up to 20 guests. The estate is a multi-zone and multi-functional one that allows for all types of indoor and outdoor experiences. The chateau and estate have been carefully renovated: the period rooms keep their classic originality and the bedroom suites besides their impeccable authenticity are equipped with modern amenities for your absolute comfort in an authentic environment. The whole chateau has been rewired, re-plumbed and an en-suite bathroom added to every suite offering a 5-star luxury stay. No expense was spared in the restoration. The chateau is equipped with air conditioning, usb charge points and many other modern facilities but hidden from eyesight. At the same time the chateau has numerous antiques and paintings.
The Grand Salon is one of the stunning period rooms of the chateau. It boasts original painted ceiling beams, emphasizing the regal status of the room. The massive fireplace has the authentic wrought iron grate which dates to 1302. The enormous painting on the wall is a hand painted oil. The furniture also is quite exquisite. The long wooden refectory table, placed below the massive painting, was made using the wood from a 16th century sunken British ship. It is still possible to see the sailors’ carvings of their names, dates and initials on the table. And the cupboard, in the corner, was carved by two Dutch artisans brothers in the 18th century. Other ancient paintings decorate the wall and there is a 1911 piano in the corner of the room.
The dining room is an astonishing place. One of the original rooms of the chateau, it boasts many original elements from the floor and the walls to the ceiling. The ceilings were painted in original design for its period and the walls are decorated with gold stenciled lions. It’s said that the room features a combination of French and English design due to its history. The fireplace is massive and the floor has original fleur-de-lis tiles. The chandelier is a medieval original and ideally suits the room design.
The library is a totally unique room with immense historical significance. The tall ceiling is adorned with the ancient patterned beams and a massive black chandelier hangs in the center of the room. The book shelves are original and contain thousands of antiquarian leather clad books dating back to 17th-19th century. The room is equipped with a sophisticated sound system. The 18th century painting above the fireplace is a Spanish national treasure. The furniture a leather “gentleman’s club” style. The original wooden desk is the one that the US ambassador to France used to write his letters to US President Thomas Jefferson in the early 18th century. He was a good friend of the count who the Chateau belonged to.
The chateau includes 9 fabulously appointed bedrooms with their own en-suite bathrooms. All bedrooms offer wonderful views of the Dordogne valley and river and of the famous chateau Fenelon on the opposite hilltop. Each bedroom suite boasts its own individual theme and every detail has been carefully matched. The first level of the chateau offers bedroom suites from the renaissance era and the second level features bedroom suites of the medieval era, representing the different eras of the chateau history.
The Royale Suite includes its own fairytale turret with views over the Dordogne valley housing an antique makeup table. It has been restored to its original royal state, yet totally modernized with USB ports, new plumbing, electrical, bathroom and air conditioning. The stencils that decorate the walls are original and are combined with a collection of 13th century swords. The suite boasts a large bedroom with a tall stone cathedral vaulted ceiling with authentic stained glass windows and a medieval chandelier, huge stain glass windows overlooking the Dordogne valley, original painted walls and all walnut matching furniture from the 18th century. The suite features its own stone bathroom with a stain glass window shower wall. Lighting in the bedroom can be changed to any colour according to your mood due to sophisticated LED hidden lighting.
The Grasse suite is named after Pierre Paul Grasse, who purchased the chateau in 1958 in a run down state and renovated it. The amazing bedroom offers high-quality leather furniture, a super king bed and a fantastic bathroom with a stunning knights Templar cross mosaic in the shower. Right from the bed, the view of the entire Dordogne river and valley can be enjoyed. The walls are decorated with wallpaper infused with Italian silk. And a hand painted oil, Maria Louisa de Tassis adorns one of the walls. The suite lights are 17th century medieval sconces.
Versailles is considered one of the most famous and luxurious palaces in the world. The Versailles suite is a tribute to its grandeur and style. A marvelous bedroom designed with the greatest attention to detail. Only high-end materials were used during the restoration. The furniture are replicas of the Versailles style, super king bed, matching furniture and an armour from the early 18th century. Handmade with exclusive intricate carving and finished with genuine gold leaf. Amazing marble tops and silk & damask upholstery add to the authentic aged feel. A hand painted oil “The Triumph of Love” and antique gold plated 18th century wall sconces, decorate the walls. The ceiling features a huge gold chandelier. The bathroom in elegant marble and mirrored furniture.
The Venetian Suite is an awe-inspiring room. All furniture is made with aged Venetian mirrored glass and matches mirrors in a spectacular unison. From the beautiful bed to the fabulous wardrobe and the dressing table, everything is picture perfect. The walls are adorned with Italian silk wall paper. The fresco above the king bed is an original 16th century one from Venice. The bathroom, placed in the turret, is mosaic tiled throughout with a knights Templar cross in the middle of the floor. The complete walk-in shower offers Dordogne view from the turret windows.
The mysterious Moulin Noir Suite is classic and stylish at the same time. The soft carpet perfectly matches the Italian silk wall paper. The furniture is unusually mysterious and modeled of French antique designs from the effective Louis XIV style, wonderfully decadent and dark. The bathroom is a black and white Italian tiled Art Deco. A four poster bed complete with 17th century sconces makes it picture perfect. The room also features a book shelf showing black ornaments and a 19th century sculpture. The walls are adorned with two pieces of art.
The Fontainebleau suite is a tribute to the famous Fontainebleau chateau, one of the largest royal castles used as a residence for French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III. The furniture has been wonderfully hand carved and would satisfy the most discerning guest. The bathroom is stunning, boasting two stain glass windows and a huge baroque mirror. The toilet is situated behind an armoire door that hides a secret room.
The Provence Suite is a quintessential French chic bedroom. It features a super-king size bed, complete with an antique wooden armoire and a chest of drawers. All art is 19th century original. The en-suite bathroom is one of the most amazing in the entire castle. Placed in the highest room the northern turret, it offers a 360 degree view of the entire Dordogne valley. The mirror is an original Rococo and the sconces are 17th century wrought iron lamps. The bath is a standalone on a pedestal. The ceiling is adorned with the authentic timbers of the chateau.
The Tiffany suite is really special. Situated on the east side of the chateau, it enjoys a unique views of the valley and chateau’s courtyard. The furniture is definitely French style with a rococo, silver gilded finish. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with a full walk-in shower and a massive circular Tiffany mirror. Italian marble walls and an ancient mosaic decorate the shower.
The Tapiste Suite is original due to the restored authentic tapestry wall paper. The suite features two beds and original 18th century artwork. The embedded armoire and wood wall coverings are unusual and create a historic ambience. The renovated en-suite bathroom is finished with stone throughout, with a fleur de lis mosaic decorating the shower. The bedroom opens the view over the entire Dordogne valley and river from the top level of the chateau.
Relax in the recently added Wellness Center. High-end facility blends the inspiring elements of natural surroundings. Take an early morning walk in the mystical forests, meditate on the numerous areas either in the forest or viewing the picturesque valley. Relax in the evening on a peaceful cliff top terrace.
The fitness center is a fantastic conversion of an ancient building, completely modernized whilst keeping ancient period elements and a stain glass window making it perhaps one of the most unique gyms in the world. The most up-to-date cardio machines, including a Concept 2 rowing machine, stationary bike and Treadmill are at your disposal. Or use the new strength training equipment, with a wide selection of free-weights, a multi-gym and benches.
